ome standard operating procedures for getting through the airport have changed forever. If you plan to travel by air, keep in mind the following tips, provided by the Federal Aviation Administration:
Check your bag. Surprise! Contrary to pre-September 11 flying, checking your bags is often faster now than relying on carry-ons.
Prep your briefcase. Each of your electronic items will have to be placed through the luggage scanner individually. Therefore, it's best not to pack them with loose items such as clothing and business papers.
Scrutinize carry-on items. Keep all metal items out of your carry-on bag, including seemingly innocuous toiletries such as nail files and razor blades.
Allow extra time at the airport and have a valid photo-identification card - drivers license or passport.
PROHIBITED ITEMS
The following items must be placed in checked luggage or else can be confiscated:
Knives and cutting instruments of any kind.
Miscellaneous implements, including corkscrews, baseball/softball bats, golf clubs, pool cues, ski poles and hockey sticks.
